The Berlin Cotto Company set itself the task to manufacture tiles from 100-year-old bricks salvaged from historic Berlin town houses. The brick tiles can be used on floors and walls.

The porous material of the burned clay provides not only for a balanced room climate, but makes these tiles also an ideal surface for under-floor heating. This unique quality of these brick tiles contributes to a pleasant and healthy atmosphere within any interior.

For the production of the Berlin Cotto brick tiles, only a fraction of the usual energy, which is used for the production of ordinary terracotta plates, is needed. With the increased awareness of global warming and pollution we feel that this aspect of its production benefits us all.

The individual character of each brick as a result of its colouring and grain leads to a unique finish to any ground or wall.

Production

The material of which the brick tiles are made of are once burned and processed bricks from clay loam. These bricks are cleaned of lime and mortar and cut in disks. After the cutting procedure the brick tiles are dried.

The brick tiles for floors are cut into a thickness of 2cm (0.8in) and for wall coverings into a thickness of 1cm (0.4in).

Standard measures of a floor brick tile approx. 25cm x 12cm x 2cm (9.8in x 4.7in x 0.8in).

Standard measures of a wall brick tile approx. 25cm x 12cm x 1cm (9.8in x 4.7in x 0.4in).

Care

Current care with e.g "Cotto wiping care". Occasional refurbishing with e.g "Cotto Waxfinish" in order to restore a permanently beautiful gloss.
